So for MY TARGET BEGINNER GROUPS, I adopt an eclectic approach (bercampur). It is neither fully grammar-based with lots of grammar exercises, nor it is fully communicative in the sense that there are extensive conversational practices. I also do not solely discuss Quranic ayat. I metaphorically hold my students’ hands and walk them through the vocabulary, encouraging them to listen, read and REFLECT on new words/phrases they encounter. From time to time I show them these words have already been used when we say our prayers or voice out our intentions to perform solah or sawm. Actually, Communicative Arabic and ‘Quranic’ Arabic are not separate for THE QURAN IS COMMUNICATION. Get students to see Arabic as a means to communicate then the Quran will communicate to them. Today, I just started my 5th group of students, a few of whom have had little success in understanding Arabic before. May the veil be lifted and together we move forward. Aamiin. #ustazahcardiff#UCarabic
